I began my
professional training as a painter in the state of New
Jersey, where I was born and raised. I was fortunate
to have this as a starting for my training. In New Jersey
painters and painting contractors are held in high regard.
Painters are very well respected by general contractors,
designers & homeowners alike. I was employed for
four years with a second generation painting contractor
who was an excellent mentor and teacher. We all took
a lot of pride in having a professional approach, superior
product knowledge & expert training. I learned many
old fashioned skills (that can’t be learned in
a text book) as well as new techniques from my employer
and co-workers while employed in New Jersey and still
use a lot of what I learned to this day. I needed a
warmer climate so I moved to Florida.

Upon arriving in Florida in 1997, I struggled to find employment
as a painter doing the type of work I was used to and at
the level I was used to working at. After several months
I found a small company who valued my skills and remained
employed there for the next 7 years .This was a good company
and I learned all about how the Florida climate affects
paint and application procedures. We worked in some of the
most exclusive communities in southwest Florida. I excelled
and was fortunate enough to become foreman of this company
for the three years prior to leaving.
I started Michael James Custom Painting in 2003. I felt
it was time for me to go out on my own and implement my
techniques and skills for the southwest Florida community.
I am constantly improving on my product knowledge through
paint manufacturer seminars, news letters and updates to
be able to provide my customers with the best possible results.
I take my continuing education seriously. I am a graduate
of the decorative master’s institute and certified
in faux finishing. I am experienced in all aspects of the
painting industry from proper product selection to unique
decorative faux finishing choices. The painting industry
and the products in use have changed a lot in the past several
years and I feel that it is my duty to stay on top of changes
and advancements in the coatings industry in order to provide
monumental results. What you can expect when you contract
me is complete satisfaction. I will achieve this by utilizing
the finest materials available, and years of skill I will
provide a finish that will enhance the beauty, protection,
and durability to any portion of your home or business.
